Road-to-zero emissions strategy unveiled by Volta Trucks


A road-to-zero emissions strategy, helped by an expanded product range, has been announced by Volta Trucks.

The initiative comes at a time where there is a huge focus on air quality and environmental issues. 

In particular, HGVs are in the firing line as most are diesel-powered. 

Therefore they are typically seen as a potential barrier to lowering emissions in the transport sector. 

Volta’s road-to-zero emissions strategy includes a sales target of 27,000 units a year by 2025. 

In addition, the company has announced plans for North America and Asia, following its European launch.

However, the biggest news related to three new Zero models, joining the 16-tonne version already revealed.

A range-topping 19-tonner and a mid-size 12-tonne variant are planned for 2023.

In the same year, a pilot fleet of a 7.5-tonne model will undergo customer trials. 

Therefore, the final one of the four models will go on sale in 2024.

Currently, there are few details about the future products, but expect much of the components to be carried over from the 16-tonne Zero.

“We have seen huge success since launching the 16-tonne Volta Zero,” said Essa Al-Saleh, Volta Trucks’ CEO.

“We have significant tail winds with zero emission large commercial vehicles, thanks to forthcoming legislation changes that are driving demand.

Meanwhile, the company’s founder, Carl-Magnus Norden, reflected on the journey.

“We originally set out to decarbonise logistics operations and to make city centres safer,” he said. 

“However, we originally believed that we couldn’t achieve this objective by ourselves. 

“Over the past months though, we’ve seen unprecedented demand in the marketplace, confirming that our ambition resonates well with our customers.”

Continuing, Norden said the launch of the four trucks and sales targets was “a very strong statement of intent”.
