Electric variant of every Renault Trucks model in two years

News

Every model in the Renault Trucks range will have an electric variant by 2023.

That’s the promise from the French manufacturer as it strengthens its commitment to a battery-powered future.

Renault Trucks has invested millions in electric trucks and electromobility.

As a result, it continues to broaden the range of options for drivers and operators looking at life beyond diesel.

Renault’s latest announcement also helps meet the Paris Agreement’s goal of cutting global warming to below 1.5°, compared with pre-industrial levels.

Battery electric and fuel cell electric power are being considered as powertrains for future trucks.

Currently, Renault has electric trucks covering the 3.1 to 26-tonne market.

However, the OEM is keen to extend the number of electric variant models as soon as possible.

Therefore, a Z.E. tractor unit is being readied for regional and inter-regional transport from 2023.

An all-electric model for urban construction will also be available from that date.

Looking beyond 2023, Renault Trucks plans to offer hydrogen fuel cell trucks for long-haul operations.

“Electric mobility is the pillar of our strategy,” said Bruno Blin, Renault Trucks president. In addition, Blin stated he wanted Renault to “We aim to lead the field.”

“We’re aiming for 35% of our sales to be electric in 2030. By 2040, all our vehicle ranges will be 100% fossil-free,” he added.

Strategic partnerships will be formed to help with the research and development needed for the switch to electric.

For example, the company will work with the wider Volvo Group to help increase volumes and cut costs.

Elsewhere, on battery packs for HGVs, Renault will benefit from the strategic alliance between Volvo and Samsung SDI.

Renault will also open a development centre in Lyon, to be built by 2023.
